Surrey Hills Family Photographer

The Surrey Hills is one of my favourite places for family photography. Living locally means I know how much variety there is within this beautiful part of Surrey – from open hills and meadows to woodland paths, fields, quiet country lanes and little corners that are perfect for letting children explore.

For me, the best family photographs happen when you are enjoying time together rather than concentrating on the camera. A family photography session in the Surrey Hills gives us plenty of opportunity to walk, play, explore and simply enjoy being outdoors while I capture the moments as they happen.

Family Photography in the Surrey Hills

I photograph families throughout the Surrey Hills and surrounding countryside, including locations around Dorking, Leith Hill, Abinger, Friday Street and the villages and woodland surrounding them.

I am always happy to suggest a location based on the kind of photographs you are hoping for. Some families love wide open landscapes and big skies, while others prefer woodland paths and more intimate surroundings. The season can make a huge difference too, from fresh spring greens and summer meadows to the beautiful colours of autumn.

What Is a Surrey Hills Family Photoshoot Like?

My sessions are relaxed and informal. There is no need for everyone to stand still and smile at the camera throughout the session. Children can run, climb, explore and play, and I will gently guide you when I see an opportunity for a lovely family portrait.

I like to combine a mixture of natural family photographs, playful moments, individual portraits and photographs of you all together. The result is a collection of images that tells a much fuller story of your family at this particular moment in time.

Dogs are very welcome too – in fact, some of my favourite Surrey Hills sessions have included the whole family, four-legged members included.

A Location That Changes With the Seasons

One of the things I love most about photographing families in the Surrey Hills is that it never looks quite the same.

Spring brings blossom, fresh green leaves and wildflowers. Summer gives us long evenings and lush greenery, while autumn brings beautiful warm colours and woodland textures. Even winter can be wonderful, with softer light and quieter paths.

The weather doesn't always have to be perfect either. Some of my favourite photographs have been made on overcast days when the soft light creates a beautiful, gentle atmosphere.
