Family and Children's Photographer in Surrey / Documenting Isolation

Working as a Surrey family photographer, I was interested to document the lives of families during corona virus-imposed lockdown. I set out to incorporate documenting family life in Surrey, as part of my daily exercise, always following the government’s advice on social distancing, and working exclusively outdoors, photographing from a safe distance.

I find children photography both challenging and really fun. Some situations present challenges, and these are mainly if parents or grandparents would like to do one thing, and the kids would like to do something totally oposite. Showing a bit of interest in a child’s life and letting them guide you to photograph their world can result in really natural, and ful photographs.

I photographed these two sisters playing in their back garden during lockdown. We started talking about their experience of isolation, and they both told me that they really enjoyed spending more time at home and not having such a busy schedule. When I asked them what they liked to do in the garden, they both exploaded with fun creative energy and were so keen to show me all fun stuff they got up to. Note that the T shirs are also their own creations!

This family photoshoot in Surrey (minus the parents) gave me such a burst of positive energy and whenever I look at these photos I get a warm feeling inside. Kids are amazing, so reselient and they inspire me every single day.

North London Family Photography / Richmond-upon-Thames and Surrey Family Photographer

I am making the most of being snowed in to catch up with my blog posts! I have done a family photoshoot for Mumta and her family back in December, the weekend after another snow storm parts of the country have experienced. The traffic was so bad it was reminiscent of apocaliptic film scences and we had to re-arrange our photo session. It was cold but sunny on the day of our photoshoot, and it was lovely to catch up with Mumta and her family which has grown since the last time I photographed them. The family was moving countries so wanted to have a few photos of their home and their local walk as a memory before they imigrated. It was great fun (although a bit of a challenge!) trying to follow the kids play and take some action shots but I am really pleased with the resulting images. I hope these photos provide a lasting memory for the family, and I can't wait to see them all when (and if ) they come back to Britain! Ruskin Park Family Photoshoot / Richmond upon Thames Family Photographer

It is wonderful taking photographs for return clients as I get to see their family grow and expand. I photographed Emma and her family on a few occasions before, and this time we arranged the photo session to mark her younger daughter's first birthday. We met in beautiful Ruskin park in Denmark Hill to take some location shots. I passed by the park many times and always wanted to visit but never had an opportunity. The park was named afrter John Ruskin, who was a prominant art critic in the Victorian era and lived in the area. I also discovered that it was used as a location for Pink Floyd's first photoshoot, shot by photographer Colin Prime. The park, with its many distinct sections, provided the perfect backdrop for family photographs. It was a beautiful but very cold November morning when we met, still a few leaves left on some of the branches. I took several family portraits around the bandstand, and then moved around the park to find suitable backdrops for children portraits and action shots (and to keep warm!). After about an hour in the cold, we headed back for a cup of tea and some play time at home. There I captured the girls having some quiet reading time with their dad, playing games and enjoying each other's company. Here is a selection of some of the photos from the day. Bye bye 2017 / Richmond and Surrey Dog Family and Wedding Photographer

I met and photographed some amazing people (and pets!) this year. I can't wait to face many adventures and challenges 2018 will bring. Hope you all have a great evening and a fantastic New Year!
