Family Photo Session with Dog in Kingston

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it is easy to overlook the simple joys that bring us together as a family. One delightful way to create lasting memories is through a family photo session, and what better way to make it extra special than by including our four-legged family member? This blog post is about one such family; it was a gorgeous autumnal family photo session with their beloved dog.

Family Photoshoot With a Dog

The day began with a mix of excitement and anticipation. I arrived at the family home to be greeted by a very excited cocker spaniel, and a very excited one year old. As we prepared to go outside to a park the family frequents, I took out my camera and started photographing the family getting ready. This enabled me to capture a few genuine expressions, as no one was focusing on me being there. I love the above photo of the girl looking at her dad while her mum was dressing her up - such intensity in one look!

Outdoor Family Photo Shoot

Selecting the right location for this family photo session was crucial. We opted for a scenic park with lush greenery, providing a natural backdrop that beautifully complemented the family's dynamics. The wide-open spaces allowed the dog to run around freely, while a few more formal areas provided some colour and a nice backdrop.

The Unpredictable Joy of Pets

One of the most heartwarming aspects of the photo session was the unpredictable joy that the dog brought to the experience. She brought an infectious energy into the session, creating candid moments that I hope the family will cherish forever. The genuine smiles and laughter captured in these images are a testament to the joy this little furry bundle brings to the family dynamic.

Indoor Family Photography Session

After we spent about an hour outside, it was snack time so we headed back home. After a bit of a rest and recuperation, it was time to take a few family portraits at home, as well as some children’s portraits of the little girl, in her home.

This was one of my favourite family photography sessions with a dog. It was filled with laughter, love, and the unpredictable charm that pets bring to family life. It was a day of creating cherished memories, both in front of and behind the camera. As I look back at the images, I am reminded that the essence of family lies not in perfection but in the genuine moments we share, and including our furry friend made those moments all the more special. Maternity Photoshoot with Puppy in Surrey Hills

Dogs are such a big part of family life; we share our experiences with them including big family milestones. That is why this couple decided to mark the arrival of their baby with a puppy and maternity photo session in the Surrey Hills. They wanted to have family portraits for their home, but also photographs which they can send out as cards to family and friends for Christmas.

Working with dogs is great fun! They are all individuals and their character comes through early on in the pet photoshoot. I love working with dogs because there is an element of unpredictability and freedom. I need to adjust my working style quickly to suit a particular dog. If it is an energetic dog, I would choose to take action shots first, then focus on portraits later. If it is an old dog, then the pace needs to be slower and the focus different. Puppies require special consideration, as they behave differently at different ages and have different energy levels. This particular puppy was few months old. He wasn’t particularly energetic but he was sweet and full of character. There was a comedic quality about him, which I wanted to capture.

In addition to puppy portraits, I wanted to capture the puppy and my clients together, for their family portraits. This is something I am putting a lot more focus on these days, even if it is a dog or puppy photoshoot. I am interested in recording the connection between people and their pets, capturing special moments for them which they can cherish as their family grows. Since this was a combined puppy and maternity photo shoot, it was even more important for me to capture everyone together. I wanted my clients not only to have the memories of the changing times in their lives but also the special bond they had with their new puppy, just as their lives were about to change, yet again.

Family Dogs

Family Dogs is a personal project which documents the relationship families have with their dogs and vice versa. The project came about from my two photography passions - photographing dogs and photographing families. It is currently in its third month and I am greatly enjoying meeting all the fabilous dogs and their owners.

Working on location

Working as a dog photographer, I photograph dogs all over London and the Soth East. This project, however is focused on Surrey dogs and photoshoots take place mainly in outside locations. This particular photoshoot, with the sweetest little cavapoo you’ll ever meet, took place in the family home.

Family Photography with Dogs

This family has a really special bond with their dog. She is adored by the whole family and loves being cuddled. I wanted to capture the bond children have with her, but also how the whole family interacts with her. Photography sessions with children and dogs can be tricky but this particular dog was like a model - as soon as she heard the camera clicking, she would look straight at me, raise her ears and pose. In my career working as a dog photographer, I haven’t seen anything like it!

Surrey Dog Photographer / Windsor Great Park Pet Photoshoot

These photos were taken about a month ago in Windsor Great Park on a beautiful summer evening. It feels like such a contrast to the drippy, grey, cold weather we are experiencing at the moment, and it also feels like much longer than a month since those nice warm summer days.

This lovely family wanted a combination of dog portraits, dog action shots and family group photographs. We started the photoshoot in a woodland area next to the Savill Garden. There was an area of think brackon which framed the dogs nicely, and made for a nice backdrop for a group shot. We then moved on to the large field which is a part of the Guards Polo Club. I noticed a few children playing with the water sprinklers and I thought these would be fun to include in the photographs. They created an amazing spray of water which I used as a backdrop for both the dog action shots and some casual group shots. I love how the water spray created a soft curtain which reflected the sun rays, these are some of my favourite photos from this dog photo session. Finally we went down towards the Obelisk pond and the Savill Garden where I took a few dog portraits against the amazing Savill Garden Kitchen building, and in front of its colourful garden.

I love working as a dog photographer. Not only do I get to meet and spend time with some amazing pooches, I also get to meet their owners and capture moments which I hope will encapsulate the spirit and character of their beloved pets. I want my photos to be timeless remider of the relationship we have with our pets, long after they are gone.

Dog Photography Session in Surrey

We’ve been spoiled for beautiful summer evenings this year. I tend to photograph whatever the weather, I really don’t mind a bit of drizzle or even rain but I do love warm sunny summer evenings and the golden light that comes with it.

I photographed these two ladies earlier this summer, when the grass (and days) was still long. When I first started photographing dogs, I focused on getting a nice portrait of a dog, or a great action shot. My dog photo sessions have evolved since then, and in additin to capturng those types of shots for my clients, I also try to capture the relationships dog owners have with their beloved pets. The special bond between these two ladies was apparent from the start which I hope I captured in this set of photographs.

Surrey Pet Photographer / Documenting Surrey Dogs During Lockdown

I love photographing dogs so it was a such a treat to photograph Luna, a female weimaraner with her owner as part of my community project, documenting how families and individuals spent their time during lockdown. This project was inspired at the beginning of lockdown by the New York photographer Stephen Lovekin who photographed people in his community in New York. His photographs, together with an article describing his community project, have been published in the Independent. I have had an amazining time working on this project, and have met wonderful people (and dogs!) in my community which has been one of the highlights of the last few months.

As London and Surrey pet photographer, I wanted to capture how Luna and her owner spent their days during lockdown. Since these two lovely ladies lead quite an active lifestyle, we split the photoshoot into two parts - one to document their love for long walks in the woods, and the second part to caputre their active lifestyle riding a bike/running alongside it.

On a beautiful summer morning, we ebmarked on a walk into our local woodland for a few portraits and action shots. The rest of this pet photoshoot was taken in the beautiful rhododendron woods, where I wanted to capture some of the blooms but also the amazing shapes and textures of the rhododendon trees. Finally I took a few headshot type photos in front of the local cricket pavillion.

The following session was nearly all about action! I was keen to photograph Luna running and her owner on the bike, and I played around with different types of shots and angles. I really like to experiment with my photography and I thought of using panning for one of the acrtion shots. I love the warm colours and the sense of motion that the photo conveys.

After all that exercise, it was time to relax in the evening light. This is one of my favourite sets of photos - backlit, golden light, summer grasses, and two stunning subjects to photograph. Every photographer’s dream!

I love worrking with small businesses and helping them out with their photography requirements. Below is a selection of photographs I did for a Dog Grooming and Doggy Day Care business in Hampstead Heath, called Sniffles Dog Grooming Spa. This is a lovely family-run place, providing first class care for dogs and their owners. The brief was to produce a set of photographs showcasing the space, services and dog accessories/products offered. It was a great morning spent at Hamstead Heath and I made lots of friends (furry and human!) along the way!

Family and Pet Photoshoot

I recently did a family and pet photoshoot with an eight month old baby and the most gorgeous chocolate lab Lola. Lola is the perfect family dog - calm, trustworthy, loving and so incredibly tolerant. She has become somewhat of a nanny to the family’s youngest addition, and it was lovely to follow the two of them around the house, photographing them playing, interacting and relaxing together. Lola’s expressions made me lough at times, there were definitely a few “Oh, no, not again!” looks.

Professional Family and Pet Photographer

I love photographing children, and I love photographing dogs. Often clients comment on what a combination that is! Although challenging and frustrating at times, I find that if I don’t try to control the situation but let the interaction happen spontaniously, photo opportunities present themselves organically and I just need to be there at the time to capture the magic unfolding. I love the little sequence of the baby and Lola interacting - it is the little looks, touches and smiles that melt my heart.

I have photographed dogs in Hampstead Heath, Richmond Park, Bushy Park, Marble Hill Park and beautiful Surrey Hills. The outdoor location provides the perfect setting for dogs to run, jump, splash in water, roll in mud and chill out in the sun. I can also take photos of your pet in your own home, relaxing in his favourite chair or exploring her favourite part of the garden.

Dog Photoshoot in Surrey / Surrey Pet Photographer

This sweet female dalmatian called Polka was the winner of a local dog show, where she won the prize for a one hour dog photoshoot with me. I visited her and her owner at their home, a beautiful farm house in Surrey.

As Surrey dog photographer, I look to capture a dog’s character, their favourite surrounding and their relationship with their owner. The owner of this lady only wanted portraits of Polka and her enjoying her surrounds.

It was a gorgeos day which I spent in the company of this fun, energetic black labrador called Pippa and her lovely owners. Her owners received a wedding gift voucher for a pet photoshot, and decided to go for a walk and some photos around Leith Hill. Energetic dogs mean lots of action shots and Pippa was well up for ball chasing and going for a long hike! As Surrey dog photographer I try to capture a dog’s personality but also the bond between dog owners and their pets. There was no doubt that Pippa and her owners were totally in love with each other, and I thoroughlly enjoyed whitnessing and capturing that bond.
